KEP Anthology Prize 2026
This year, writers are invited to explore unforgettable themes, inventive prompts, and emotionally resonant narratives. Whether you write enchanting fantasy, heart-racing thrillers, heartfelt romance, transformative young adult fiction, or visionary science fiction, this competition offers a space for your creativity to thrive.
Each category presents a unique challenge designed to inspire originality while encouraging writers to push the boundaries of storytelling. We are looking for compelling characters, immersive worlds, powerful prose, and stories that linger long after the final page.
As part of the competition, the Top Ten finalists from each category will be selected for publication in one of our upcoming anthologies, giving exceptional writers the opportunity to have their work featured alongside other outstanding voices in contemporary fiction.
The categories:
Fantasy / Magic Realism
Theme: “The Figurine”
Stories should incorporate the theme or central object “The Figurine” in a meaningful and imaginative way.
Romance
Theme Requirement:
Stories must begin with the sentence: “It was World Humanitarian Day…”
Literary/Contemporary Fiction
Theme: “My Superpower”
Stories should explore identity, growth, discovery, or transformation through the lens of this theme.
Crime / Thriller
Theme Requirement:
Stories must either begin or end with the phrase: “For the sake of peace…”
Science Fiction
Theme: “World Mental Health Day”
Stories should creatively interpret the theme within speculative, futuristic, dystopian, technological, or spacefaring settings.

We are seeking passionate writers to contribute standalone novels to our growing universe of Historical, Contemporary, Fantasy, and Christian Romance. Each series has a central vision and thematic catalyst that guides storytelling, but authors have creative freedom within those bounds.
Series Vision & Central Catalyst
Fantasy
- Catalyst: A thriving kingdom faces succession, and three contrasting prophecies emerge. Love stories develop amid political intrigue, spiritual rituals, and community pressures.
- Author Opportunity: Explore romance amidst power struggles, prophecy fulfilment, and rich societal traditions.
Historical
- Catalyst: Nigeria’s Independence in 1960 looms, creating social, political, and personal upheaval.
- Author Opportunity: Show how love survives, transforms, or fractures under historical pressure. One romance trope per book is explored deeply against real events.
Contemporary
- Catalyst: A cartographer from Kaduna visits Port Harcourt, coinciding with her friend’s project to restore the Obudu Cattle Ranch/Resort. She decides to offer free residency to 25 couples, stirring romance and social dynamics.
- Author Opportunity: Write standalone love stories rooted in modern Nigerian life, cultural heritage, and community interaction.
Christian
- Catalyst: An othordox church retreat experiences a mishap, triggering youth conversations, pastoral training, and new converts’ classes, alongside a scandal involving a senior pastor, reverend and a nosy novitiate.
- Author Opportunity: Explore faith-driven romance, redemption arcs, and spiritual growth in relatable contemporary settings.
